According to recent studies by the Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitism is on the rise in Europe, Russia, and the United States.  In Arab media, diatribes against Jews are increasingly overt and commonplace, "the elevator music for the Arab world."  Much of this anti-Semitic expression is characterised by shrill rhetoric and old prejudices, leaving little room for fresh dialogue on the subject.

Uncle Semite seeks to elevate the conversation, moving the rhetorical, knee-jerk anti-Semitism of the past towards a progressive, "green" uncle-Semitism, relevant in our time.

Shitler's List Abridged For Now

(12-Aug-2008)  Uncle Semite has temporarily abridged Shitler's List after reflecting on a recent reader email.  Regardless of whether this particular request was authentic or not, it easily could have been.

A visitor to the site was concerned that his fiancée's job prospects might be impaired by an employer finding her name on Shitler's List and requested that her name be removed.  While no right-thinking employer or other party should consider any name on the list an endorsement of this site, until Uncle Semite can figure out how to hide Shitler's List from search engines, only ten names will remain on each page for needed context (e.g. Shitler's List V).

Smerc-ing Chimp

(05-Jun-2008)   On the MSNBC show "Race for the White House" yesterday, host David Gregory asked his panel about the prospect of Hillary as the Democratic vice-presidential candidate.  Following panelist Rachel Maddow's brief, yet thoughtful take on the subject, we were treated to this minor effort by Jewish neo-con Michael Smerconish:
David Gregory:  "You know Smerc', it's interesting: Jimmy Carter, former president out today saying this is a terrible idea to have her on the ticket. They would reinforce each other's negatives."
Michael Smerconish:  "Well, respectfully or maybe not so respectfully, I just don't think he's got the clout. I.. I really don't think that Jimmy Carter is swaying uh.. opinion on that issue."

Now Michael...  Since the question wasn't about 1) your personal opinion of the former president or 2) whether you think the author and elder statesman has any clout or 3) whether Carter was trying to sway public opinion with his remarks, Uncle Semite must enquire: 1) Who the f-ck asked you? and 2) Who the f-ck are you?

Happy 60th!

(10-May-2008)  Israel's 60th birthday was marred somewhat by the revelation that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been accused of taking bribes from a wealthy Jewish-American businessman.

"Mr Olmert admitted Moshe Talansky gave donations for past election campaigns, but insisted at a news conference "I never took a penny for myself".  [...]

"The latest difficulties for Mr Olmert - who is already being investigated in a number of corruption scandals - became public as Israel celebrated the 60th anniversary of its establishment as a state. "

Nice Frame...

(5-May-2008)  Rachel Maddow spoke several days ago on her progressive talk show about Jimmy Carter's recent meeting with Hamas and how he'd been unfairly criticized and portrayed as a "crazy liberal" for his outreach.  (Those were essentially her words and she did use the passive voice.)  In defending Carter, Rachel implied - intentionally or not - that it was the right wing who was leading the condemnation of the former president.  However, it was Israel and the Israel Lobby, not the GOP, who were most upset by the Carter visit.  (Google Carter criticized Hamas and scan the results for "Israel.")

While Rachel Maddow sincerely laments the loss of life in Afghanistan and Iraq on each and every show and rightly blasts the neo-cons for the Iraq war, not once has she mentioned Israel's role in this debacle.  Sadly, as we have learned from Rachel and her fellow host Thom Hartmann, criticism of Israel is simply not allowed on Air America Radio.

Schadenfreude

(27-Apr-2008)  Paragon House Publishers is scheduled to release "Not Your Father's Antisemitism: Hatred of the Jews in the 21st Century" in April 2008.  Before you get excited and pre-order the book, please know that the only part authored by Uncle Semite is, presumably, the title.  Excerpts and a summary of the book (complete with grammar errors) can be found at Paragon's website.
